Nokia’s BB5 handsets (mostly the 3G ones) are proving very difficult to unlock and this has been the case for some time now; this is why we cannot unlock the 6630, N-series (N73 etc) and others. Up until recently the lower-cost handsets, like the older ones, hadn’t been a problem.

Now, however, Nokia have introduced a new type of DCT4 (the predecessor to BB5) algorithm. As well as the unlockable ASIC 2, ASIC 5, ASIC 6 and ASIC 7 they now give us the ASIC 11 phones: namely the Nokia 1110i, Nokia 1112, Nokia 2310 and Nokia 2610 (presumably more will come). While we cannot unlock these ASIC 11 handsets at present, we are hopeful that a solution to unlock these phones will become available soon, and certainly much more quickly than the BB5 algorithm, so keep your eyes on this blog and on our website for updates.

Another issue has been reported to us regarding Nokia 6111s. This time it’s not Tesco Mobile 6111s causing trouble but Virgin 6111s, specifically the Cath Kidston ones.  It’s not clear at this stage whether or not the issue affects Cath Kidston Nokia 6111s or just Virgin Mobile ones, however we are looking into this now.

Please note that we are aware of this issue and can successfully unlock Cath Kidston phones to use any mobile network, however if you have a Cath Kidston phone you may receive a “Code Error” message when you enter your unlocking code.  If this happens should contact us immediately and make it clear that your phone is a Cath Kidston one, as we are unable to determine this automatically at present.
